‘Mile High’ improves to 33-0
Unbeaten light-welterweight Mike Alvarado edged a step closer to a
world title shot in yet another entertaining battle against Californian
Mauricio Herrera in Las Vegas, Nevada.
Both fighters gave their all in for the full duration of the
ten rounds as they traded full-blooded punches with neither man willing to give
ground to the packed Mandalay Bay crowd’s delight.
The early rounds were close, but as Herrera’s left eye began
to swell, Alvarado seemed to take over control of the fight with the cleaner work and volume of punches. Herrera, 31, was rewarded with a high-profile bout for
his victory over previously undefeated Ruslan Provodnikov in January 2011 and a
more recent majority decision win over Mike Dallas Jr and didn’t disappoint
anyone with his efforts.
Alvarado, also 31, just proved to have the classier shots in
his armoury to take the contest 99-91, 97-93 and 96-94 on the cards and if
there was to be a second bout between the two warriors, nobody would complain.
