Father and son in gym meeting
Floyd Mayweather Jr. and his father Floyd Sr. have shared an
embrace and an uneasy handshake as reported by The Los Angeles Times following their public spat last year prior to Jr's September bout with Victor Ortiz.
The two were seen on HBO's Mayweather v Ortiz 24/7 yelling and
screaming at each other with no regards for the packed media in attendance and
have since kept their distance as Floyd begun preparations to face Miguel Cotto
on May 5th.
Mayweather Sr. was in fine voice as he returned to the gym
were the original argument took place and spoke to reporters to give his
thoughts on the public fall-out that shocked onlookers in the gym and on TV.
“That’s my son, let’s forget about it. There’s no hatred. My
blood runs through him, and his through mine,” stated Mayweather Sr.
“At the end of the day, I wish the best for him. That’s my
son.
“One thing I’ve learned about life: live and let live. I
didn’t come here to make no apology. I owe no apology. I’m the father. He
[Floyd Jr.] hasn’t done that, either, even though a lot of people feel he
should.
“I don’t feel good in here, it’s my son’s gym. The way you
feel is the way it is. He made a statement [in last year’s argument] about all
the things he had.... If it hadn’t been for me, he’d have nothing.
“We went nine years without talking before. Then to come
back with this? Don’t scandalize me. You scandalize me, you scandalize
yourself,” he added.
‘Money’ is just weeks away from another light-middleweight
title challenge following his split decision win over Oscar De La Hoya in 2007
and is looking to seal his tenth world title next month.
