Scott Harrison thrown career lifeline with three-year contract

‘The Real McCoy’ to press on with return plans

Former world featherweight champion Scot Harrison has linked up with renowned Scottish promoter Alex Morrison following the break-up of his relationship with Frank Maloney.

The 34 year-old, who was supposed to make his eagerly-awaited comeback on Saturday night following a seven-year absence, was arrested by police for a series of alleged drunken incidents and immediately dropped by Maloney.

The Glasgow fighter is now hopeful that the British Board of Boxing Control give him a reprieve from sanctions after the arrest and allow him to concentrate of climbing through the ropes and fulfilling his dream of becoming world champion once again.

Morrison, who had no qualms in stepping in to offer Harrison a three-year deal, is hoping to have the one-time WBO belt holder back in the ring as early as May at a show in his native Scotland.

"I have signed a management contract with Scott and I plan to bring him back on a show in Glasgow in around five weeks' time,” Morrison told The Scottish Sun.

"I met Scott and his father and trainer, Peter on Friday and we agreed a three-year deal. The rest is up to him. But I don't regard this as a gamble. Scott is the one who is gambling with his career and I have nothing to lose.

"He admits he was drunk, but that's hardly a crime, and his lawyer has assured him that the fiscal has no plans to proceed with any charges.

“I am exploring the possibility of bring Scott back at the Kelvin Hall. Scott deserves another chance," added Morrison.

Rico Ramos captures world super- bantamweight title with KO

Jay WBN Editor ‘Suavecito’ scores 20th straight win over Shimoda Undefeated Californian Rico Ramos produced a world-class left hand in the seventh round of his WBA title challenge against Japan’s Akifumi Shimoda to rip the belt away from the older southpaw in his first defence. The 24 year-old looked far from a world champion in the first five rounds, only gaining a foothold in the fight in round six, but ultimately produced the equalizer in the seventh to take the crown. Shimoda, 26, will be furious with himself as he bossed the majority of the fight and was up five rounds to one on my card going into the seventh round. Private invegstigator: Arturo Gatti death clearly not suicide

Jay  WBN Editor An investigator hired by boxing legend Arturo Gatti’s manager Pat Lynch have given his verdict after a thorough investigation into the death of the two-weight world champion, who died in Brazil in 2009. Chicago-based P.I Paul Ciolino has put his findings into a detailed report, which will be released on August 30 th , but gave his opinion to New Jesery-based newspaper The Jersey Journal  after a ten-month operation. Gatti died aged 37 whilst on holiday with his wife Amanda Rodrigues and his young son in north east Brazil and after an investigation by the Brazilian authorities was deemed a suicide. Brazilian police had said that the exciting prize fighter was drunk and depressed and used his wife’s purse strap to hang himself whilst his wife and son slept upstairs, which Ciolino totally disagrees with.
