Vanes: I hope K9 accepts the fight for June 9th!

Martirosyan eyeing world title shot

Undefeated light-middleweight contender Vanes Martirosyan is hoping to lure IBF champion Cornelius Bundrage into a summer showdown as the ‘Nightmare’ looks to land a big fight promised to him by promoter Bob Arum.

The 25 year-old, who has amassed an impressive 32-0 record with 20 stoppages so far, is currently ranked highly by the WBC and is said to be on the verge of a match-up with James Kirkland for the chance to meet title holder Saul Alvarez.

Armenian-born Martirosyan, who is now based in California, has eyes for Bundrage’s red belt though on the Pacquiao v Bradley undercard, even as the former contender star is pencilled in to face mandatory challenger Cory Spinks on June 23^rd.

“I would love to fight K9, it’s a fight I wanted for a while I think it a great fight for the fans,” Martirosyan explained to World Boxing News.

“June 9th is the date we are looking at and it would be amazing time to challenge for the title at the MGM Grand.

“Bob Arum promised me a big fight for my next fight and want this to be it. I really hope K9 steps up and fights me,” he added.

The fight may not be a case of Bundrage accepting the fight as the IBF would have to sanction any contest and ensure the winner faces Spinks, who has already signed his part of the contract to face the champion at the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel and Casino in Hollywood.

Jay WBN Editor ‘Suavecito’ scores 20th straight win over Shimoda Undefeated Californian Rico Ramos produced a world-class left hand in the seventh round of his WBA title challenge against Japan’s Akifumi Shimoda to rip the belt away from the older southpaw in his first defence. The 24 year-old looked far from a world champion in the first five rounds, only gaining a foothold in the fight in round six, but ultimately produced the equalizer in the seventh to take the crown. Shimoda, 26, will be furious with himself as he bossed the majority of the fight and was up five rounds to one on my card going into the seventh round. Private invegstigator: Arturo Gatti death clearly not suicide

Jay WBN Editor An investigator hired by boxing legend Arturo Gatti’s manager Pat Lynch have given his verdict after a thorough investigation into the death of the two-weight world champion, who died in Brazil in 2009. Chicago-based P.I Paul Ciolino has put his findings into a detailed report, which will be released on August 30 th , but gave his opinion to New Jesery-based newspaper The Jersey Journal after a ten-month operation. Gatti died aged 37 whilst on holiday with his wife Amanda Rodrigues and his young son in north east Brazil and after an investigation by the Brazilian authorities was deemed a suicide. Brazilian police had said that the exciting prize fighter was drunk and depressed and used his wife’s purse strap to hang himself whilst his wife and son slept upstairs, which Ciolino totally disagrees with.
