Japanese fighter given title shot
Undefeated Dmitry Pirog will make the third defence of his
WBO middleweight title against Nobuhiro Ishida on May 1st at the
Sport Complex Krylatskoe in Moscow, Russia.
Temryuk-born Pirog, 31, has an unblemished 19-fight record
since turning pro seven-years ago and boasts victories over Daniel Jacobs and
Gennady Martirosyan in the past 22 months.
Oppoent Ishida became the first man to stop James Kirkland a
year ago with a shock first round TKO and the 36 year-old will attempt to win his first full
world title following a spell as interim WBA light-middleweight champion in
2009.
Title holder Pirog was being lined up for a massive
unification contest with IBF champion Daniel Geale in the United States this
August, although the WBO quashed the bout and ruled he must meet face his
mandatory challenger within four months.
