Mexican moves to 79 stoppages with KO win
Luis Ramon Campas, better known as ‘Yori Boy’ Campas achieved
a magnificent feat over this past weekend to record his 100th victory
in professional boxing with a second round knockout of former world title
challenger Mauro Lucero in his hometown of Sonora.
The 40 year-old former world light-middleweight champion
joins the likes of Archie Moore (185), Sugar Ray Robinson (173) and Henry
Armstrong (150), amongst other fighters to hit the magic three-digit number.
Campas now boasts a record of 100-16-1 since he first entered
a boxing ring in 1987 and has only lost one of his last nine contests to keep
himself in with a slim chance of a fringe title shot before his retirement.
The Mexican would have to fight another 25 years though to
match the amazing win columns of Willie Pep (229) and Maxie Rosenbloom (207)
but his achievements have certainly given him a special place with Mexican
fight fans.
