Former amateur captain may accept the right offer

2012 Olympian Luke Jackson has told WBN that a run in the
paid ranks is not out of the question following reports of an instant retirement
in the wake of his round of 32 defeat to China’s Liu Qiang at the London games.
The 27 year-old, who captained Australia at the 2010
Commonwealth Games as well as the recent Olympics, is set to talk over his
next move with his family before making a decision of whether his future lies in
boxing or elsewhere.
“Well my plan was always to retire after London Olympics so
it was a thought out decision, but given my performance in London I was very
disappointed in the way things went and I know I can do so much better,”
Jackson told World Boxing News.
“Boxing is still in my blood and I'm very keen to continue, but
first I have to talk to my family and girlfriend to see what their thoughts
are.”
When asked if a professional move was a possibility, Jackson
answered: “Yes, probably for the right money.”
Jackson’s home country came away from the recent tournament
without a medal, although the Hobart fighter believes that the squad acquitted themselves in the right manner and can take heart from the experience.
“I thought the boys boxed well and did themselves proud,”
said Jackson.
“We had a few fights that could have gone our way by a few
points and I thought Jai Opetaia and Ibby Balla were very unlucky to lose.
The lightweight now has immediate plans to concentrate on his other
projects before he makes a final decision and we could yet see the charismatic
fighter grace a pro ring in the near future.
“I have my own business Jackson Asbestos and Roofing PTY LTD
that I run and I’m not 100% sure yet (about my next move), but whatever I
decide to do, I want to be the best I can be,” he added.
