Malta trip rumoured to be off for unbeaten fighter
Light-middleweight prospect Joe Selkirk is on the verge of
quitting the sport after announcing that his upcoming fight on August 17 on the
undercard of Robin Reid’s WBF title bout in Malta has fallen through.
The 26 year-old, who has fought just nine times in four
years as a professional, made the remarks on his personal Twitter account earlier
today and stated that he has now ‘finished with it’ after missing out on a
tenth pro outing.
The likeable Liverpudlian is touted as one of the top
British prospects at the moment as even stablemate Tony Bellew famously stated
the ‘he wasn’t even the best fighter in his gym’ when referring to Selkirk, who
has been disappointed at his inactivity since turning professional.
The remark is certain to be a heat of the moment statement
by the 9-0 fighter and is remains unclear at the this point whether the whole
card has also been cancelled, which included fellow-Scousers Tony Dodson and
Paul Edwards.
