Puerto Rican legend in ‘critical but stable condition’
Former three-time world champion Hector Camacho is being
taken care of at San Juan’s Centro Medico Trauma Centre following an incident where
the ex-fighter was shot in the jaw in Bayamon City.
The bullet exited the 50 year-old’s face before becoming
lodged in his shoulder, although early reports are that the Puerto Rican could
be paralysed and may never walk again following the shooting.
Dr. Ernesto Torres has stated that his condition is ‘critical
but stable’ and Camacho’s life is not said to be in any immediate danger,
although he is very lucky to be alive.
"Camacho's condition is extremely delicate. His physical
condition will help him but we will see," he told Telenoticias.
Camacho, who last fought in 2010 losing to Saul Duran, was
sitting in a car when a gunman opened fire leaving one man dead and the
88-fight veteran fighting to survive with severe wounds.
‘Macho’ claimed his first world title in just his ninth
fight as he won the WBC super-featherweight title in 1983, before going on to
pick-up world belts at lightweight and light-welterweight.
