Legal issues stall ex-champs revival
Former two-time world title holder Scot Harrison has no
scheduled bouts ahead of him as promoter Alex Morrison has taken the decision
to cancel the boxer’s latest fight as further prison time hangs in the balance.
Harrison, 35, is two fights into his boxing comeback after
serving more than two-years in a Spanish prison and now faces another five-year stint
after being found guilty of assaulting two men at a brothel in 2007.
‘The Real McCoy’ had been in preparations for a December 1
outing as the Scot attempts to put himself in line to face WBO lightweight
champion Ricky Burns next year, but that dream in now on hold indefinitely as Harrison fights the charges.
"Scott has too many issues to deal with at the moment
and it wouldn't be fair to expect him to undertake an important fight with
everything that's going on in his life,” Morrison told heraldscotland.com.
“But I am not giving up on him. Hopefully, we can get this
Spanish business cleared up and, if so, he will return to the ring early in the
New Year.
"I have already stated that I think Scott is the victim
of a witch hunt as the case against him was supposed to have been dealt with
five years ago.”
There are now fears that Harrison may be stripped of his
license by the British Board with another conviction being handed down,
although Morrison is hopeful that an appeal to the sentence is successful so he can continues his career.
"Scott is still in training and I will do everything in
my power to try to ensure that he keeps his licence," he added.
