Japanese champions successful in Miyagi
Shinsuke Yamanaka retained his WBC bantamweight title in
impressive fashion by stopping former world flyweight champion Tomas Rojas in
the seventh round of their contest at the Xebio Arena in Sendai, Japan.
The 30 year-old was making the second defence of his belt
and now moves on to bigger things, whilst Mexican Rojas drops his 14th loss from 55
contests in his fourth outing at the higher weight division.
Also on the bill, Toshiyuki Igarashi remains the WBC
flyweight title holder after claiming a close majority decision win over rugged Argentinian
Nestor Narvaes in an entertaining battle in the co-feature.
Igarashi, 28, was handed a 114-112 victory on two of the
cards, whilst one judge saw the bout 113-113 as Narvaes suffered his first
defeat in 22 contests and the home fighter took his record to 17-1-1.
