‘Ghost’ coy on talk of possible match-up
WBN Editor
In a recent interview with WBN, interim WBC welterweight
champion Robert Guerrero kept his cards close to his chest when asked about a
possible future world title bout with the returning Ricky 'Hitman' Hatton.
The 29 year-old from Gilroy, California mentioned at the
time that his sole focus was upcoming opponent Andre Berto and any other fights
would be considered after his November 24 clash with the former world title
holder.
Hatton, 33, fights himself on the same night against
Vyacheslav Senchenko at the Manchester Arena and Guerrero is 100% behind the
Briton’s return to the ring, even without classing him as a future foe just yet.
“Ricky Hatton is and will always be, a popular fighter in
the UK,” Guerrero told World Boxing News.
“He is good for boxing if he can get back on track as he
brings a lot of fans to the U.S. when he fights here and that’s a good
thing. I hope he does well with his
comeback.”
Guerrero may soon become the full WBC title holder as Floyd
Mayweather confirms that he will not fight until 2013, which could see him stripped
of the title that he is yet to defend since claiming it fourteen months ago.
