Filipino tentatively tests the flyweight waters
According to this week’s fight schedule, WBO light-flyweight
champion Donnie Nietes is moving up to the 112lb limit against one-fight novice
pro Danai Meendaeng in a bout set for ten rounds in Dumaguete City, Philippines.
What makes the lop-sided bout even more astounding is the
fact that Meendaeng LOST his only contest so far, which took place over a year
ago against 19 year-old up and comer Cris ‘The King’ Paulino.
Nietes, 30, hasn’t faced anyone with a record as puny as
this since his debut and it is hard to see what the world title holder will
gain from the contest, especially if he doesn't end the fight early or win by
a wide margin.
