Welshman career on hold Rumours that former world champion Enzo Maccarinelli had tested positive for a banned substance have been swirling around boxing for the past month and have now been confirmed. The 31 year-old, who recently vacated his British cruiserweight title, is facing a ban from the sport just as he may have been on the verge of a possible all-Welsh world title showdown with WBO light-heavyweight king Nathan Cleverly. The likeable fighter from Swansea had one of the best reputations in the sport and had also been working as a commentator for BoxNation when the first reports filtered through of a problem with his test result. Journeyman Michael Banbula and former English cruiserweight champion Terry Dunstan have also been named as the latest boxers to be serving suspensions for using banned substance.

The 31 year-old was forced to withdraw from high-profile bouts with Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. and Jessie Vargas since his last fight against Saul Alvarez in September 2011 and is now ready to erase the memory of his second world title defeat. “The fight with Shawn Porter is on.
