‘The Great’ open to rematch with ‘Desert Storm’

Former unified world light-welterweight title holder Devon Alexander wants a second meeting with Timothy Bradley in November after Manny Pacquiao distanced himself from an immediate rematch with the WBO welterweight champion.

25 year-old Alexander, now campaigning at welterweight himself, is due to fight in August, with several opponents in the frame, but then hopes to face Bradley in the first defence of the Californian's 147lb belt.

“I would love the opportunity to avenge my only loss to Bradley – definitely,” Alexander told World Boxing News.

“I will take care of business in August and then we will see what happens about facing him in November.

“I don't think Bradley will want the fight though as I think he wants to milk that belt with a lesser opponent and avoid another fight with me.”

“I had his last fight 7-5 to Pacquiao so I don’t think he wants to go there again or face me either.”

‘The Great’ has previously expressed to WBN his interest in challenging new IBF champion Randall Bailey and rumours are now rife that they could meet in the fall.Alexander would then have an ideal bargaining tool to face Bradley in another unification contest should he overcome the ‘KO King’ and secure the November 10 rematch.

Alexander and Bradley last fought in January 2011 for both the WBC and WBO 140lb titles, with a cut ending the fight in the tenth round with Bradley ahead on all three of the judges’ cards and another meeting could not be ruled out later this year.

Collins Jr. turned pro in 1981, a welterweight, just like his father before him and impressively won his first 14 professional contests, 11 by knockout with eight inside the first three rounds. It was 1983 and Billy was matched up against Puerto Rican journeyman Luis Resto on the undercard of Roberto Duran v Davey Moore at Madison Square Garden in a ten rounder. Resto wasn’t known for his punching power but Billy took a sustained beating for the full ten rounds, his face, badly damaged and his eyes were almost shut. After the fight, which Resto won on decision, Billy’s father shook Resto’s hand and noticed there wasn’t much padding in his gl...

Jay  WBN Editor British champion open to fight with former WBO title holder According to Scott Harrison’s manager Alex Morrison, the Scot has been offered the chance to fight British champion Derry Mathews later in the year. The possbile fight hinges on whether Mathews can come through a rematch with Gavin Rees next month at the Motorpoint Arena in Sheffield. Morrison is looking to fast-track his fighter to a world title shot in 2013 and sees the Lonsdale belt as an ideal stepping stone for Harrison as he makes his comeback from a seven-year absence. The 34 year-old fights Brahim Bariz in his first fight since 2005 at the end of the month at the Kelvin Hall in Glasgow and wants to move as quickly as possible on to a potential shot at a world champion.
