‘Boxing Binman’ suffer deep gash on eyebrow
The greatly-anticipated super-bantamweight clash between former
world title challenger Rendall Munroe and current British champion Scott Quigg
ended prematurely tonight as a clash of heads saw the contest end a technical
draw.
32 year-old Munroe started brightly in the first, pushing
Quigg back as the Bury man struggled to gain a foothold in the opening session.
Quigg, 23, came back superbly in the second to frustrate Munroe and make him
miss, as the contest end all-square after two rounds.
The bout ended shortly into the third round though as both men
lunged in and Quigg's forehead accidentally scraped Munroe’s eyebrow and opened a horrific cut
that hampered the Leicester fighter’s sight immediately.
The referee allowed the fight to go on for a few seconds
until the doctor was called in and without hesitation, called off the contest to
a blood-splattered Munroe’s frustration. The bout was then called a technical draw
as four rounds had not been completed and marked a sad end to Ricky Hatton’s
time on Sky.
The two highly-ranked fighters will no doubt have to stage
the fight again later in the year on a different network as Hatton hopes to
announce the destination of his stable in the next two weeks.
