Undefeated Russian becomes IBO champion
Kaizer Mabuza surrendered his IBO light-welterweight title
in his maiden defence to undefeated Russian challenger Khabib Allakhverdiev in
front of a Partizan crowd in Moscow.
The South African had previously made two unsuccessful attempts to win a world title
on two occasions before defeating Steven Wills for the IBO strap in March and
failed to make a solitary defence as Allakhverdiev proved too strong.
Allakhverdiev, 29, put Mabuza down in the very first round
before the champion went into survival mode for the next two rounds and after the home fighter put him down
twice in the fourth, the 32 year-old failed to beat the count.
‘The Hawk’ now improves to 17-0 with his eighth stoppage win
and with Mabuza suffering his eighth career defeat, it is hard to see where ‘The
Animal’ takes his career from here.
