Californian promises shock on June 23
Josesito Lopez is ready to stun Victor Ortiz on June 23rd at
the Staples Center and then challenge Saul Alvarez at the MGM Grand on September
15th for the WBC light-middleweight title.
The 27 year-old, who lost out to Jessie Vargas last time out
in a controversial ten-round split decision, is annoyed at Golden Boy for
announcing Alvarez v Ortiz as he and 'vicious' Victor have unfinished business next week.
“It just gives me more incentive. Like when football coaches put newspapers up
on the players dressing room walls,” Lopez told World Boxing News.
“When I beat Victor, I'll get the Canelo fight. That's the way it works. I'm really so happy
to get this opportunity. It's like Rocky
in his first movie.
“But I have to take one fight at a time and I know that
sounds boring. That’s the way I must focus.”
Asked whether he will look for a rematch with Vargas in the
future, Lopez added: “When I beat Ortiz I'll be passed Jessie Vargas. I know I won the fight and so do my fans.”
Lopez and Ortiz will contest the WBC silver welterweight
title next weekend, with Mexican multi-weight champion Humberto Soto’s 140lb
battle with Argentinian Lucas Matthysse providing chief support in Los Angeles.
