‘Hitman’ ready to fight
his demons
Former world
light-welterweight and welterweight champion Ricky Hatton’s imminent comeback
is being eyed for a jam-packed show on his famous stomping ground at the MEN
Arena in November.
Hatton, 33, has been
out of the ring since 2009 and WBN has learnt that the ‘Hitman’ is ready to
give his career one-more shot as his bids to erase the memory of his
heart-breaking two-round loss to Manny Pacquiao at the MGM Grand Arena.
A date at the end of
November was initially targeted, with rumours that the last day of the month
was on offer, but it now seems more likely that Hatton will attempt to seal the
final Saturday on the 24th.
A host of
Hatton-Promoted fighters are set to feature on the sell-out bill, with the
eagerly-anticipated super-bantmanweight rematch between Scott Quigg and Rendall
Munroe said to the first bout pencilled in to feature, whilst cricket star Andrew ‘Freddie’
Flintoff, a big pal of Hatton’s, may also have a place on the bill for his
heavyweight debut.
An opponent is
likely to come from outside the world’s top ten welterweights for Hatton’s
first bout in three years, with a possible world title challenge against WBA belt holder Paulie
Malignaggi a distinct possibility for the summer of 2013.
