Heavyweight boxer Ali Adams has spoken exclusively to WBN in
the wake of his failed drug test, to deny that he knowingly took a banned
substance and vowed to clear his name following a full investigation.
The 30 year-old Iraq-born Londoner tested positive for an illegal drug in the aftermath of his recent defeat to former European champion
Audley Harrison and trainer Don Charles has already expressed his
disappointment.
Adams believes the truth will vindicate him when the
findings are revealed and was disheartened by statement released by Charles and
promoter’s Goodwin that stated: “We feel
let down by Ali whether it is naive or not.
“We are totally against the use of PED’s in boxing and a
boxer should be smart enough to ensure any substance that enters his body is
not a banned one.
“2012 has seen many boxers come under suspicion and some
banned and we back everything that the drugs agencies are doing to clean up the sport.
“Whatever punishment Ali Adams receives will be supported by
Goodwin Promotions and trainer Don Charles.”
The 6ft 4ins one-time International Masters champion admits
that he should take some of the blame for the test coming back positive, but is
sure that the conclusion will eradicate him of any wrongdoing and will fight the allegations made against him.
“I did not intentionally take a banned substance,” Adams explained
to World Boxing News.
“I am sorry for the upset my mistake has caused. I was naive.
“The statement Don Charles has made is incorrect. This will
come out when the investigations are complete,” he added.
