Steward: Chisora the more likely to face Wladimir from British crop

Trainer sees ‘Del Boy’ win over Haye

In a recent interview with World Boxing News, legendary trainer Emanuel Steward has chosen Dereck Chisora as the next challenger to Wladimir Klitschko once he takes care of David Haye on July 14.

Wladimir himself has an imminent fight against Tony Thompson and Steward sees a match-up between the two as the next logical step when the two rivals come through their respective opponents.

“Preparations have gone great, Wladimir is ready,” Steward told World Boxing News.

“I absolutely see a quicker finish than last time (when Klitschko stopped Thompson in eleven).

When asked about a future opponent for Wladimir from a list of Tyson Fury, David Price or the Haye v Chisora winner, Steward replied bluntly: “Chisora would be the more likely opponent for Wladimir," obviously alluring to the former British champion coming through David Haye next week at Upton Park in London.

Steward also believes that the ageing Wladimir will continue in the sport once his brother retires and sees no sign of the four-belt world title holder quitting anytime soon.

“Wladimir loves the sport and the business,” added Steward, who is leading Klitschko into his 61st professional contest in Switzerland on Saturday night.

The choice of Chisora for Klitschko could conceivably be a revenge mission for the 36 year-old, who watched on a ‘Del Boy’ slapped his brother Vitali in February, and was himself a victim as the Londoner spat water in his face.

Former world title challenger Chisora has a tough task against the ‘Hayemaker’ on Saturday week, but now has a bigger incentive to come out on top….if he didn’t already.

Recently the youngster was given the opportunity to spar with Australia’s IBO world light-heavyweight champion Danny Green as he prepares to take on Antonio Tarver and gain valuable experience before his trip to Europe. Opetaia, who hails from Watanobbi, has already taken former world champion Anthony Mundine a few rounds in sparring and has added another world renowned boxer to the list in 38 year-old Green.
