Boxer suffers ‘Nightmare’ as opponent fails medical
WBC light-middleweight title contender Vanes Martirosyan is
angry tonight following the collapse of his fight with Ryan Davis just 30 hours
before the two fighters were due to meet in California.
The 26 year-old was pencilled in to fight Illinois-based Davis, 33,
at the Home Depot Center on the Nonito Donaire v Jeffrey Mathebula undercard
but now faces another wait as the bout was already rescheduled from June 16.
Martirosyan stated: “My fight got cancelled as the guy I was
going to fight didn’t pass his medical.”
It is now highly unlikely that the two will now meet after
the WBC ordered an eliminator between the 32-fight unbeaten ‘Nightmare’ and
Erislandy Lara - with the winner to face champion Saul Alvarez in late 2012 or
early 2013.
