‘Hitman’ confusion as ex-champ silent
Former two-weight world champion Ricky Hatton has apparently announced
his intention to don the gloves once more, three years after his infamous
defeat to Manny Pacquiao at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas.
Tentative rumours suggest that the 33 year-old is attempting to return after he was laid flat on his back in his defining
fight against the Filipino in the second round of their 2009 world title fight - something that has haunted the Mancunian since.
The loss led to a very public fall from grace for a depressed Hatton not long after and he has since kept focus on his promotional and training responsibilities within his successful company Hatton Promotions.

The ‘Hitman’ is rumoured to be ready to come out of retirement though and
erase the memory of his loss to the eight-weight champion and according to two unofficial and as yet unreliable sources, told Sky Sports
News (who know nothing of this quote) that he intends to return to the sport reinvigorated and hungry.
Hatton ended his career with an impressive record of 45-2,
with 32 stoppages and unified the light-welterweight division on both sides of
the Atlantic either side of a world title win at welterweight over Luis Collazo.
Details of the avid Manchester City fan's out-of-the-blue return are still to be confirmed by anyone in and around Hatton as rumours have circulated though that a possible rematch with
Paulie Malignaggi is on the cards.
That if true, would mean a shot at the WBA welterweight title later in the year and I am one hundred per cent certain that Hatton, even now, would fancy his chances of a return win after stopping the ‘Magic Man’ in eleven rounds in 2008.
