Sakio Bika talks Stevenson, fighting Froch in England and 175lbs

Former Contender champion on the lookout for opponent

Highly-ranked super-middleweight Sakio Bika has told WBN that his recent offer to fight Adonis Stevenson in an IBF title eliminator came just at the wrong time, leading to him having to turn the chance down.

The former IBO title holder is now looking to return to the ring in the fall after stopping Dyah Davis in ten rounds at the Home Depot Center last month and hopes to secure a fifth world title challenge in the near future.

“I was prepared to fight Stevenson in September after my victory over Davis in June, but they wanted to push the fight forward one month because it worked better for his Promoter's agenda. The negotiations finally fell through as they weren't prepared to compromise,” Bika told World Boxing News.

“There have been a couple of things mentioned for my next fight but I have to leave all of this to my manager Al Haymon.

“I would like to fight the winner or the Arthur Abraham vs Robert Stieglitz or the likes of Carl Froch, Mikkel Kessler, Kelly Pavlik and any other top boxer in the 168lb division.

“I am the best in the super-middleweight division.”

Bika, 33, then zoned in on a potential fight with British fighter Froch, who is currently on the lookout for a November opponent for his first defence of the IBF title he took from Lucian Bute.

“I am a fighter and I would love to win a world title in the champion's backyard. After my fight with Joe Calzaghe, I have many fans in the UK so a fight with Froch would be very popular over there,” explained Bika.

“I respect Carl Froch. He is a class act and a fine champion. He is the kind of boxer that really comes to fight and I am the same. An opportunity to fight him for a world title would be great. I think that the fans would like to see that happen.”

On a possible future move up to the light-heavyweight division, Bika added: “For the right offer, I will fight anyone. I'm a natural 168lb fighter, but for a couple of million dollars I would fight the Klitschko brothers!

“I want to say thanks to all my fans around the world for your continued support throughout my career and I will be back in the ring soon,” he finished.

Recently the youngster was given the opportunity to spar with Australia’s IBO world light-heavyweight champion Danny Green as he prepares to take on Antonio Tarver and gain valuable experience before his trip to Europe. Opetaia, who hails from Watanobbi, has already taken former world champion Anthony Mundine a few rounds in sparring and has added another world renowned boxer to the list in 38 year-old Green.
